Q: What can I accomplish with PrivateEquityI?
A: You may search PrivateEquityI for transactions, investors, companies who have been funded or acquired and people who are employed by companies or private equity firms.
You may also download records in either CSV (Comma Separated Value) format or in PDF format. You may set up Alerts to enable PrivateEquityI to notify you whenever a new transaction meets your pre-set criteria.
Q: Do I need to have any specialized knowledge?
A: No. PrivateEquityI is designed to be easy-to-use and requires no special training or database knowledge.
Q: What if I have questions about how to use the database?
A: To familiarize yourself, you can take a short Tour of
the database. If you have a specific question, you can Contact us and let us know your question.
Q: Nothing comes up in my search. What's wrong?
A: Your search criteria may be too restrictive. You might get better results by extending the date range to encompass a longer time period, choosing other related industries, or selecting different funding rounds or amounts.
Q: How much data is in the database?
A: The database contains private equity transactions as far back as January 1, 2006. There are thousands of transactions, investors and companies, with hundreds more added each month across all sectors.
Q: Why are Company and Individual Names hyperlinked inside Transaction detail records?
A: Links within transaction records are there to help customers navigate intuitively through large amounts of information. Simply click on the company or individual name. PrivateEquityI will automatically add that term to your Search criteria to further refine your search.
Q: How do I change my subscription information or email selections?
A: You may change your subscription preferences, billing information and other account details through your My Account page.
Q: I recently used your Contact form to ask a question. When should I expect a response?
A: PrivateEquityI usually responds within 24 hours to questions from Monday to Friday. Answers to questions submitted during weekends may take longer.
Q: What format do the downloaded records come in? How do I import downloaded records into my contact management program?
A: PrivateEquityI downloads come in ".csv" format, which stands for "Comma Separated Value" format. This is a standardized format for transferring data between most software programs and is ideal for downloading information into a wide variety of off-the-shelf and customized management programs. In addition, you may download records in PDF and vCard formats.
Most programs have an "Import Data Wizard" where the program walks you through the process. Please refer to your contact management program's directions.
Check with your technical support team or software manufacturer if you are unsure whether your software can import data in .csv format.
Q: How often do you update PrivateEquityI's database with new information?
A: New transaction records and data about companies involved in new transactions are added each work day as the information is publicly announced. All other data is updated at least twice yearly or as new information is made available to us.
Q: There are missing fields of information in some records. Why is this?
A: Occasionally companies will not disclose commonly released information for privacy-related or competitive reasons. Since PrivateEquityI uses public domain information, this can result in partial or incomplete records. PrivateEquityI makes every attempt to obtain full information for each record, but we cannot guarantee that records will be complete or perfectly accurate.
Q: There are investors listed on the source information that aren't in the data record. Why is this?
There may be more than one reason for this. First, the venture investor may no longer be an active investor—only verified active investors are included in the PrivateEquityI database.
Second, there may be no available information on the investor, due to their decision not to publish contact information. Third, the venture investor may be located far outside the geographical focus of PrivateEquityI.
Q: What if I decide I don’t like/can't use your service?
A: PrivateEquityI guarantees that you will be satisfied with your use of the online service. If we are unable to satisfy your requirements, we will promptly refund the unused portion. Please refer to the Terms of Use.
Q: How do I reach a human being?
A: If you have a question or concern, our staff is happy to help you. Call (650) 323–1817 weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. We look forward to your call.
Q: What areas of the country do the different regions refer to?
A: Regions are defined by the first and/or second number of their ZIP code, as follows: Northeast is 0 and 1; Mid-Atlantic is 2; East & Southeast is 3 and 4; Midwest is 5, 6 and 7; West is 8; Southern California is 90 to 93; Northern California is 94 to 96; Pacific Northwest is 97 to 98.
Q: Why doesn’t the system allow me to create a PDF of a record?
A: The system treats PDF downloads the same as a CSV download. If you are a Trial account subscriber or have used all the downloads in your account, the system does not allow downloading of the record, in CSV or PDF form. To be able to download via PDF or CSV, please either subscribe to PrivateEquityI or Contact us to purchase additional records.
Q: Why aren’t some investor individual names hyperlinked in the Investor Detail Record?
A: The hyperlinks are actually the email addresses of the individuals. Some firms do not make their employee’s email addresses publicly available.
